The Mauri Mahi, Mauri Ora, Mauri Noho, Mauri
Mate: Health Effects of Unemployment, is a major
research portfolio for Te Ropū Rangahau Hauora a
Eru Pōmare based at the Wellington School of
Medicine. The portfolio provides a comprehensive
multi-method approach to study the health effects of
unemployment. The Centre believes this is necessary
to optimise policy outcomes and to effectively inform
intervention planning. This paper presents the piloting
of the Memorywork method within the context of the
qualitative study of the unemployment portfolio and
kaupapa Māori research. It examines some of the
health consequences of unemployment and in
particular unemployment and Māori, and the use of
the Memorywork method as a tool for Māori health
research.
